Electrolyte and Endocrine Panels

These tests measure sodium, calcium, thyroid hormones, and cortisol levels to detect conditions that mimic or worsen psychiatric or neurological symptoms.

Why it matters: Electrolyte or hormone imbalances can cause confusion, seizures, or mood swings.

In children: Disorders like hypothyroidism or adrenal dysfunction can present as learning difficulties or depression.

Statistic: Pediatric thyroid disorders affect approximately 1 in 1,250 children, and early diagnosis greatly improves cognition and mood (American Thyroid Association, 2024).

What families should know: The test requires only a blood draw and is often part of initial work-ups for behavioral or developmental concerns.
